Report of the Mayor submitting resident committee appointments (introduction 2/6/2018; action 2/27/2018).

 

Body

I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following resident committee appointments.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

 

JOINT SOUTHEAST CAMPUS AREA COMMITTEE

 

Transit and Parking Commission recommendation:

KENNETH M. STREIT (11th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Transit & Parking Commission Representative. He succeeds Margaret M. Bergamini.

TERM EXPIRES WITH TPC TERM: 4-30-2018

 

 

JOINT WEST CAMPUS AREA COMMITTEE

 

ULRIKE DIETERLE (11th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Sunset Village Community Association (SCVA) Representative. Ms. Dieterle is retired as a medical librarian from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is an active member of the SCVA, including having worked on the neighborhood plan. She succeeds Liz E. Vowles.

 

 

MADISON'S CENTRAL BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID) BOARD

 

Note: Per the Business Improvement District [BID] Operating Plan as approved by the Common Council, “Wisconsin Statutes section 66.1109(3) (a) requires that the Board be composed of at least five members and that a majority of the Board members shall either own or occupy real property in the District.  If the actual property or business owner is an entity, that entity shall designate a representative to act on its behalf.”

 

 

AMY J. MOORE (6th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of State Street Area-Property/Business Owner. Ms. Moore is the owner of Little Luxuries located at 230 State Street. She is a member of the Greater State Street Business Association. Ms. Moore succeeds Richard F. Brahmer.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2020

 

*JOHN B. HUTCHINSON, Sun Prairie, 53590 - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of Greater State Street Business Association Member. First appointed 1-16-2007.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2021

 

Rationale:  Mr. Hutchinson is the president of Fontana Sports, located at 216 N. Henry Street, a property which he also owns. He is a long-time State Street business owner (since 1972), has served as the President of the Greater State Street Business Association and is active in Dane County Buy Local. 

 

*STACY M. NEMETH, Fitchburg, 53711 - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Downtown Madison, Inc. (DMI) Representative. Ms. Nemeth currently holds the Capitol Square Area Property Owner position and has served since 3-2-2004. She succeeds Rick J.W. Petri.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2019

 

Rationale: Ms. Nemeth is the current chair of the DMI Board of Directors. She is the Chief Operating Officer of The Fiore Companies, which owns property within the District and  manages retail and commercial property, including the 100 Block State Street redevelopment.

 

DANIEL J. KENNELLY (13th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of City of Madison Representative. Mr. Kennelly is the Office of Business Resources Manager for the City of Madison. He succeeds Matthew Mikolajewski.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2019

 

BEN MILLER (13th A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of UW-Madison Representative.  Mr. Miller serves as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Government and Corporate Affairs. First appointed 7-11-2017.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2021

 

GREGORY O. FRANK (19th A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of Downtown Coordinating Committee Representative.  First appointed 1-17-2012.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2021

EMILY M. MEHL (20th A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of At-Large BID Property Owner Representative (representing the largest property owner in the BID). First appointed 1-17-2012.

SISTER CITY COLLABORATION COMMITTEE

 

JONATHAN S. SOLARI (6th A.D.) - appoint to a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Mr. Solari is the major gifts officer with Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. He previously worked as the marketing and development coordinator for Working Capital for Community Needs (WCCN). Mr. Solari succeeds Enrique R. Gandara.

TERM EXPIRES: 2-1-2021
