Report of the Mayor submitting resident committee appointments (introduction 1/2/2018; action 1/16/2018).

I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following resident committee appointments.

 

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

 

COMMITTEE ON SWEATFREE PURCHASES

 

THOMAS J. GUNDERSEN (4th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Student Representative on the UW-Madison Labor Licensing Policy Committee. Mr. Gundersen succeeds Luke R. Gangler.

TERM EXPIRES: 3-31-2018

 

LOUISA C. SCHWARTZ (13th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of City of Madison Resident. Ms. Schwartz is a software developer with Epic Systems. She is a co-coordinator for Epic’s LGBTQIA employee resource group. Ms. Schwartz also volunteers with Meals on Wheels and Friends of Ferals. She succeeds Lydia Zepeda.

BRYAN J. DAGGETT (1st A.D.) - appoint to a three-year term to the position of Alternate Member. Mr. Daggett is an assistant manager at The North Face. He is a volunteer with the Schools of Hope tutoring program. Mr. Daggett succeeds Carol Bracewell.

CONSUELO LOPEZ SPRINGFIELD (10th A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of Community Representative. First appointed 3-29-2016.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES COMMISSION

 

ARLETTE KAMBWA-GITAU (3rd A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Ms. Kambwa-Gitau is a human resources professional currently working for ABS Global. She serves on both the Diversity Committee and the Professional Development Committee of the Greater Madison-area Society of Human Resources. Ms. Kambwa-Gitau succeeds Moriah N. Grace.

JARED J. PELSKI (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Monona Bay Neighborhood Association Representative. Mr. Pelski is the current president of the Monona Bay Neighborhood Association.

 

CHAD J. RUPPEL (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Monona Bay Neighborhood Association Representative. Mr. Ruppel is a member of the Monona Bay Neighborhood Association and is employed by the US Department of Housing & Urban Development.

 

DEWAYNE T. GRAY (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Resident of CDA/Bayview-owned Properties. Mr. Gray is an active and long-time resident of the Triangle Community. He is a social worker employed by the Department of Corrections.

 

BETSY A. JOHNSON (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Resident of CDA/Bayview-owned Properties. Ms. Johnson is a 15-year resident of Brittingham Tower. She is a retired licensed professional counselor.

 

MARIA ESPINOZA (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Resident of CDA/Bayview-owned Properties. Ms. Espinoza is a 12-year resident of Bayview. She has volunteered with Head Start and Randall Elementary School.

 

CURTIS V. BRINK (19th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Business/Property Owner Representative. Mr. Brink is the owner of Curt Vaughn Brink, LLC and owns land on West Washington Avenue.

 

                     Currently serving on:                     Landlord and Tenant Issues Committee

 

*MIKE BRASSER, Oregon - appoint to the position of Business/Property Owner Representative.

 

Rationale: Mr. Brasser is the senior construction manager for UnityPoint Health (UPH)-Meriter. As such, he is responsible for the planning, design and construction of all properties with the UPH-Meriter real estate portfolio.

 

SARIAH J. DAINE (15th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Business/Property Owner Representative. Ms. Daine is a member of the Community Development Authority (CDA) and former resident of CDA housing.

 

ALEXIS LONDON (12th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Business/Property Owner Representative. Ms. London is the executive director of Bayview Foundation, Inc. which provides affordable housing to Triangle residents.

 

YVETTE JONES (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Business/Property Owner Representative. Ms. Jones is the owner/president of designCraft Advertising, located within the planning area.

 

DIA XIONG (13th A.D.) - appoint to the position of At-Large Representative. Ms. Xiong is a long-time resident of Bayview and is a member of the Bayview Senior Committee.
