Recommendation to dissolve the EOC Employment Subcommittee

Body

WHEREAS, the EOC Employment Subcommittee was created by the Equal Opportunities Commission in 1966 to study the employment needs of the city of Madison’s black residents; and,

 

WHEREAS, the EOC Employment Subcommittee’s mission is, “To assist the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission in fulfilling its mission of enabling all individuals to live and work free or employment discrimination by acting as an advisor on fair employment issues; and by further developing and supporting the community’s understanding of and commitment to fair employment and to the value of diversity in the workplace;” and,

 

WHEREAS, over the 51 years since the inception of the EOC Employment Subcommittee this mission has been absorbed into work of the Equal Opportunities Division, the Department of Civil Rights and other City departments through the Racial Equity and Social Justice Initiative; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Equal Opportunities Commission has specifically studied and recognized all functions of the EOC Employment Subcommittee are processed by both the Department of Civil Rights staff and the Equal Opportunities Commission itself.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Equal Opportunities Commission recommends that the Common Council support passage of (Legistar I.D. No. 49023 of ordinance change) that dissolves the EOC Employment Subcommittee effective immediately.
