Title

Supporting the University of Wisconsin-Madison's application for a federal grant for a city-scale advanced wireless project called MadNEST, and indicating the City of Madison's intention to cooperate in the project.

Body

WHEREAS, the University of Wisconsin-Madison intends to apply for a federal grant for a city-scale advanced wireless project to be called MadNEST; and,

 

WHEREAS, the applications for the grant are due by July 31, 2017; and,

 

WHEREAS, this pilot project will require the cooperation of the City of Madison in several areas, including the placement of wireless base stations on city-owned buildings or other structures; and,

 

WHEREAS, the pilot project will advance the City’s goal of providing the necessary wireless capabilities throughout the City of Madison,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison supports the application by the University of Wisconsin-Madison to obtain funding for this important pilot project; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City and its departments commit to cooperating with the project should the University obtain the funding; and,

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOVED, that the City’s cooperation is expected to be accomplished within existing budgets, and to the extent participation in the project requires further approvals by the Council, appropriate resolutions will be introduced.
