Title
Commending and thanking Alderperson Mike Verveer for his dedicated and conscientious service during his tenure as President of the Madison Common Council.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Mike Verveer was elected by his peers to the office of President of the Madison Common Council on April 19, 2016 for the 2016 - 2017 term; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Verveer met weekly with Mayor Paul Soglin and Council President Pro Tem Marsha Rummel to discuss city issues; and,
WHEREAS, during his term as Common Council President, Alderperson Verveer served as chair of the Common Council Organizational Committee and served on the Alcohol License Review Committee, Board of Estimates, Committee on Aging, Committee on Employee Relations, Downtown Coordinating Committee, Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award Committee, Ethics Board, Joint Southeast Campus Area Committee, Madison Cultural Arts District Board, Madison Central Business Improvement District (BID) Board, MATC Downtown Education Advisory Committee, Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center Board, Room Tax Commission and the Vending Oversight Committee; and,
WHEREAS, during Alderperson Verveer’s tenure as Common Council President he scheduled a variety of discussions, briefings and informational presentations for Council members such as the Madison Municipal Building Design update, Focused Interruption Coalition presentation, 2017 Budget update, Strategic Management and What Works Cities initiatives, Madison in Motion update, a City's Clean Energy Goals presentation, Emerald Ash Borer update, Smart State Transportation Initiative presentation, Madison Police Department Use of Force demonstration and Imagine Madison initiative presentation; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Verveer, in addition to fulfilling his duties as Common Council President with dignity and sensibility, ably and diligently represented his District Four constituents,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Mike Verveer for his conscientious service during his tenure as President of the Madison Common Council.
