Report of the Mayor submitting citizen committee appointments (introduction 2/28/2017; action 3/7/2017).

I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following citizen committee appointments.

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

 

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION COMMISSION

 

APRIL C. KIGEYA (7th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Ms. Kigeya is a theft and fraud investigator with the Target Corporation. She is a member of the Student Education Committee for the International Organization of Black Security Executives. Ms. Kigeya succeeds Albert P. Chanthaboury.

BOARD OF PARK COMMISSIONERS

 

VENUS D. WASHINGTON (14th A.D.) - appoint to a three-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Ms. Washington is a head coach with the Verona School District and a certified personal trainer. She has been involved with numerous organizations including Head Start, the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce and Women in Focus, Inc. Ms. Washington succeeds Jeffrey L. Lewis.

BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS

 

JOSEPH R. CLAUSIUS (17th A.D.)  - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of Adult City Resident. Mr. Clausius is a former alder, having served on the Common Council from 2007 to 2015. He is a member of the Clarendon Hills Homeowners Association, Friends of Starkweather Creek and the Madison Parks Foundation. Mr. Clausius succeeds Steven M. Fix.

BUILDING CODE, FIRE CODE, CONVEYANCE CODE AND LICENSING APPEALS BOARD

 

MELISSA A. PEYTON (6th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Professional Engineer.  Ms. Peyton is a structural engineer and is the co-founder/CFO of (MP)2 Structural Engineers, LLC.  He succeeds Robert B. Corey.

RICHARD A. RIPHON (3rd  A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term and to a full three-year term to the position of Member with Fire Prevention Experience.  Mr. Riphon is a safety coordinator with the University of Wisconsin Environmental Health and Safety Department. He retired from the Madison Fire Department after 30 years of service. Mr. Riphon succeeds Rick W. Hext.

She has previously volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Madison Metropolitan School District as a tutor. Ms. Badsing succeeds Kira L. Stewart

EVELYN H. ATKINSON (2nd A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of Third Alternate. Ms. Atkinson is currently a Ph.D. candidate in history at the University of Chicago. She is living in Madison doing research at the Wisconsin Historical Archives. She has a JD from Harvard Law School and previously interned with the ACLU’s Women’s Rights Project. Ms. Atkinson succeeds Stacie A. Reece.
