Encouraging City of Madison Residents to "Imagine a Day Without Water" on September 15, 2016.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Madison is centrally located in the Yahara River Watershed and the heart of the City of Madison and the State Capitol are located on an isthmus between two bodies of water; and,

WHEREAS, residents and visitors to the City of Madison enjoy swimming, boating, ice fishing in our lakes and streams as well as walking and biking along the lakeshores, cross country skiing and snowshoeing ; and,

WHEREAS, it wouldn’t be summer in Madison without enjoying an ice cream cone while dipping ones toes in Lake Mendota at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union or dancing at Dane Dances at the Monona Terrace while overlooking sparkling Lake Monona; and,

WHEREAS, The City of Madison continually demonstrates a commitment to water; and,

WHEREAS, The City was the first city in the United States to conduct a complete replacement of all known lead water pipes to residential properties; and,

WHEREAS, The City is a proud partner in the Yahara WINs partnership with the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District to reduce phosphorus runoff into the lakes; and,

WHEREAS, enjoying and appreciating water is an essential value to the City of Madison, WI; and,

WHEREAS, the Value of Water Coalition has designated September 15, 2016 as “Imagine a Day without Water,” in order to raise awareness of the impact of clean drinking water, water infrastructure and sanitation; and,

WHEREAS, investment in water must be a top priority; and,

WHEREAS, clean and safe water access is fundamental to a healthy life and provides an essential foundation for a vibrant local economy; and,

WHEREAS, the challenges of climate change, runoff and pollutants, increase demand for water and infrastructure age require a comprehensive approach to water management; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison declares September 15, 20...
