Fiscal Note

The proposed resolution authorizes a sole source contract with three companies to provide part for busses within Metro’s fleet. The sole source agreement will ensure parts are compatible with existing equipment. The 2016 Adopted Operating Budget includes $702,611 for these expenditures (MUNIS 85100-53450). The resolution authorizes the sole source agreement for purchases from 2016-2020; funding for future years of the agreement is subject to future Council appropriation.

Body

WHEREAS, Metro Transit has a need to purchase a variety of bus parts for bus parts not under warranty but manufactured only by a specific vendor; and

 

WHEREAS, Metro transit currently has Cummins, Gillig and Trapeze buses and/or parts in its fleet that will need replacing in the next five years; and

 

WHEREAS, In order to purchase parts compatible with current equipment, Metro Transit needs to purchase parts from soul source vendors Cummins, Gillig and Trapeze; and

 

WHEREAS, only Cummins, Gillig and Trapeze manufacture compatible parts for their own equipment already in Metro Transit's bus fleet, and therefore, Common Council approval is required for an exception to the competitive selection process normally required for purchases over $25,000 as allowed by MGO 4.26(4) (a) 2;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Metro Transit may purchase parts from Cummins, Inc., Gillig, LLC and Trapeze Software Group, Inc. during fiscal years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 for vehicles for which only those manufacturers make compatible parts.
