Report of the Mayor submitting citizen committee appointments (introduction 3-15-2016; action 3-29-2016).

I hereby submit, for your consideration and approval, the following citizen committee appointments.

 

 

*2/3 vote required for confirmation of non-city residents.

Pursuant to Sec. 3.30(2) of the Madison General Ordinances, "...provision shall not apply to a member of or candidate for appointment to a City of Madison board, committee or commission where, in the judgement of the mayor and two-thirds (2/3) of the Common Council, the best interests of the city will be served by the appointment of a non-resident member who is particularly well qualified by reasons of education, background, and experience with Madison business concerns or other Madison-based employers and the Mayor specifies fully to the Common Council the reasons why he or she is recommending such appointment."

 

 

BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS

 

KENNETH G. JOHNSON (11th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of First Alternate. Mr. Johnson is a retired civil engineer having worked 36 years with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. He succeeds Harold P. Dahl.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIVISION CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

 

Community Services Committee recommendation:

KIM R. GENICH (5th A.D.) - reappoint to the position of Community Services Committee Member.

BRIDGET D. ROGERS (6th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Community Services Committee Member succeeding Felicitus E. Ferington.

Community Development Block Grant Committee recommendation:

BEN M. VAN PELT (4th A.D.) - reappoint to the position of Community Development Block Grant Committee Member.

RICKY HUNT (19th A.D.) - appoint to the position of Community Development Block Grant Committee Member succeeding Daniel O'Callaghan.

COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMITTEE

 

WALI UREHAMAN (9th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Community Representative. Mr. Urehaman is a database developer with the Department of Workforce Development. He also volunteers at the Masjid Us-Sunnah. Mr. Urehaman succeeds Michelle L. Michalak.

TERM EXPIRES: 10-1-2018

 

CONSUELO LOPEZ SPRINGFIELD (10th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Community Representative. Ms. Lopez Springfield has recently retired from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was an assistant dean and senior lecturer. She is a member of the League of Women Voters of Dane County. Ms. Lopez Springfield succeeds Paul J. Van Rooy.

MADISON'S CENTRAL BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (BID) BOARD

 

Note: Per the Business Improvement District [BID] Operating Plan as approved by the Common Council, “Wisconsin Statutes section 66.1109(3) (a) requires that the Board be composed of at least five members and that a majority of the Board members shall either own or occupy real property in the District.  If the actual property or business owner is an entity, that entity shall designate a representative to act on its behalf.”

 

*JEANETTE E. RIECHERS, Maple Bluff - reappoint to a three-year term to the  position of State Street Area - Business Owner.  First appointed 5-15-2007.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2019

 

Rationale: Ms. Riechers is a respected State Street area business owner (Madison Sole, 414 State Street) who will continue to contribute greatly to the BID. She also serves on the Board of the Greater Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau. 

 

MATT MIKOLAJEWSKI (6th A.D.) - reappoint to a three year term to the position of City of Madison Representative.  Mr. Mikolajewski is the  Economic Development Director for the City of Madison.   First appointed 7-3-2007.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2019

 

KRISTOPHER M. WACHOWIAK (4th A.D.) - reappoint to a three-year term to the position of At-Large Central Downtown Representative. Mr. Wachowiak is the Co-owner/Director of Operations for Deja Food, LLC.  First appointed 11-19-2013.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2019

 

KEN MONTELEONE (4th A.D) - appoint to a three-year term to the position of Capitol Square - Business Owner. Mr. Monteleone is the owner of Fromagination, a specialty cheese boutique located at 12 S. Carroll Street. He succeeds Paul R. Norman.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2019

 

*JONATHAN ZAROV, Monona - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Tax Exempt Entity Representative succeeding Ted DeDee.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2017

 

Rationale: Mr. Zarov is the marketing and communications director for the Madison Children's Museum. Having worked for Overture Center, UW-Madison and several other area arts organizations, Mr. Zarov’s experience as an Arts Administrator and programming specialist will serve the BID exceptionally well.

 

*CRAIG BARTLETT, Fitchburg - appoint to a three-year term to the position of At Large Central Downtown Representative succeeding Richard R. Kilmer.

TERM EXPIRES: 1-18-2019

 

Rationale: Mr. Bartlett is the co-owner/Associate Publisher of Madison’s weekly independent newspaper - The Isthmus. The Isthmus offices are located on State Street. As a downtown business owner and member of the media, Mr. Bartlett offers a wide variety of contacts and expertise for the BID Board. Additionally, Mr. Bartlett is the third generation in his family to own a business in downtown Madison, offering a great historical perspective.

 

 

SUSTAINABLE MADISON COMMITTEE

 

JASON A. VARGO (6th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of Member. Mr. Vargo currently holds the First Alternate position and has served since 9-1-2015. He succeeds Anya Firszt.

TERM EXPIRES: 6-30-2016

 

TRACY E. HARVEY (9th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of First Alternate. Ms. Harvey currently holds the Second Alternate position and has served since 11-17-2015. She succeeds Jason A. Vargo who assumed a Member position.

TERM EXPIRES: 6-30-2016

 

STACIE A. REECE (13th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a two-year term to the position of Second Alternate. Ms. Reece currently holds the Third Alternate position and has served since 2-2-2016. She succeeds Tracy E. Harvey who assumed the First Alternate position.

TERM EXPIRES: 6-30-2017

 

 

ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS

 

AGNES (ALLIE) B. BERENYI (6th A.D.) - appoint to the remainder of a three-year term to the position of Second Alternate. Ms. Berenyi is an instructor of construction and remodeling at Madison College and has worked in the local remodeling and construction industry for 20+ years. In addition, she has mentored women interested in skilled trade careers. She succeeds Peter A. Ostlind.
