Recognizing and commending Lois Evenson for her professional and personal dedication to the City of Madison on the occasion of her retirement.

Body

WHEREAS, Lois Evenson has worked as a child care specialist for the City of Madison since June 19, 1989: and

 

WHEREAS, Lois has offered expert consultation and technical assistance to the child care providers with which she worked-, guiding them to meet and maintain high quality early childhood care and educational standards while improving children’s learning experiences; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois has touched the lives and professional development of numerous directors and staff throughout her tenure by providing mentoring and support; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois achieved endorsement in 1991 as a High/Scope Trainer and crafted numerous training experiences for Madison’s child care staff that raised their level of professional competence, and improved the quality of care in our community; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois oversaw the 10 year comparison study of Wisconsin state licensing rule violations between accredited and non-accredited centers leading to the conclusion that accredited centers had a higher compliance rate; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois’s expertise in fiscal management and budget development assisted child care programs to reach and maintain financial solvency; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois obtained Wisconsin State grant funds for a comprehensive organizational, administrative and business training series which improved financial management, staff retention and supervision in accredited programs, thus stabilizing centers serving low income families; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois participated in collaborative efforts such as MMSD 4 year old Kindergarten planning, the Madison Area Accredited Early Childhood Association, the Madison College Advisory Committee, and the Madison Director’s Caucus; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois developed and directed an individualized, long-term training program for a center serving primarily low-income families which assisted the center in meeting quality child care standards and attaining Madison Accreditation; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois committed herself to the recent revision of the Madison Accreditation Standards articulating best practices in child care, while providing necessary support to fellow staff to complete the work in a timely manner; and

 

WHEREAS, Lois has many personal goals that she is interested in pursuing in leisure, not the least of which is to spend time with her grandchildren; and

 

WHEREAS, Community Development Division staff will miss Lois and her famous lemon bars.

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council recognize and thank Lois Evenson for her contributions to high quality child care in Madison, congratulate her on her retirement from 27 years of work for the City of Madison, and offer her their best wished in her future endeavors.
