Title

Amending the work timeline for the Madison Police Department Policy and Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, the City of Madison created the Madison Police Department Policy and Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee (Resolution File #37863) to review policies, procedures, culture and training of the Madison Police Department by hiring an expert in community policing, law, problem oriented policing, racial disparities, restorative justice and implicit bias; and

 

WHEREAS, that Resolution provided a timeline requiring that the Ad Hoc Committee present its recommendations to the Common Council at its July 2016 meeting; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ad Hoc Committee held its first meeting on November 18, 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, in order to thoroughly address their mission, and due to the late start date of the committee, the Madison Police Department Policy and Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee will not complete its work by July 2016;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council amends the work timeline for the Madison Police Department Policy and Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee for the presentation of its recommendations as follows: the Ad Hoc Committee will provide the Common Council an interim report in June 2016 with a status update of the work of the committee and present its recommendations to the Mayor, Common Council, Police and Fire Commission, and the Madison Police Chief at the December 6, 2016 Common Council meeting.
