Title

Update by the Planning Division on expanded boundaries for the forthcoming Yahara Hills Neighborhood Development Plan.

Body

On August 4, 2015, the Common Council adopted Resolution 15-00666 (ID 39303), authorizing the City of Madison Planning Division to prepare the Yahara Hills Neighborhood Development Plan for an area to generally be bound by Cottage Grove Road and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-owned rail line on the north, the Blooming Grove-Cottage Grove township lines on the east, Siggelkow Road on the south and Interstate Highway 39/90 and the future eastern realignment of Sprecher Road on the west. The Plan Commission reviewed the proposed resolution at its July 27, 2015 meeting and recommended that it be approved by the Common Council.

Subsequent to the adoption of the resolution, Planning Division staff determined that it would be advantageous to broaden the boundaries of the planning area to include an area of land located east of County Trunk Highway AB and the Blooming Grove-Cottage Grove township lines south of US Highways 12 and 18. The area to be added to the boundaries of the future Yahara Hills planning area is adjacent to one of the areas likeliest to experience the earliest and most significant development. Staff feels that extending the plan boundaries east towards Door Creek will create a more comprehensive set of recommendations for land use, the transportation system, parks and open space, and utility service to guide future urban development within an identified City growth area.

The purpose of this update is to advise the Plan Commission of the expanded boundaries of the future plan. No action by the Plan Commission on this matter is necessary.
