Authorizing the Madison Police Department to accept a donation of 10 sets of scopes with a total value of $18,138.

PREAMBLE
An anonymous donor has reached out to the Madison Police Department (MPD) and offered to donate 10 sets of scopes for use on MPD rifles. These scopes will be utilized by the Madison Police Department SWAT Team, and will serve as both new and replacement items (though their functionality is similar to scopes currently used by the department).
The donation is being facilitated by Vortex Optics in Middleton, and the items being donated have a value of $18,138.
WHEREAS, rifle scopes have been utilized by the MPD for at least 30 years; and,
WHEREAS, some of these devices will replace scopes that have been in use for almost fifteen years and are clearly in need of an update; and,
WHEREAS, the acceptance of these devices will allow members of the MPD to perform their duties more effectively, thereby enhancing officer and community safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council approves the acceptance of these items for use by the Madison Police Department.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Madison Police Department will express the appreciation of the Mayor and Council to the anonymous donor.
