Approving the purchase of a Smiths Detection System Haz Mat monitor.
Body
The Fire Department hazardous materials team has a twelve-year old Haz Mat monitor  that needs replacement.  Repairs and maintenance is $5,000 annually with the cost increasing due to the age of the unit.  It is at the end of its useful life,  This monitor is a chemical identification system.  Smith Detection is a brand specific monitor and the Department is not aware of another manufacturer or distributor for this specialized equipment.
 
The cost of a new system is $57,000 and funds exist within segregated fund SO29.  This City has a contract with the State of Wisconsin for regional hazardous material response and is also allowed to recover costs from responsible parties for  incidents.
 
 
WHEREAS, the Fire Department hazardous materials team has identified the need to replace the Smiths Detection System HazMat monitor.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council approves the purchase of a Smith Detection System monitor at the cost of $57,000.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the SO29 fund budget be amended to reflect this purchase under account number SO29-58585.
