Fiscal Note
The 2014 adopted capital budget for Metro Transit provides includes funding of up to $5,000,000 for new fareboxes and associated equipment and parts.  Metro has picked the most responsive and responsible bidder, Genfare, a Division of SPX Corporation.  Metro Transit will purchase 220 GFI FastFare fareboxes and associated equipment, installation, training, and maintenance at an estimated cost of $3,250,662 $3,425,000 during 2014.  Up to 80% of the total project cost is funded by USDOT/FTA, with the remaining 20% local share funding by General Obligation debt.  See the attached budget breakdown.

WHEREAS, Metro Transit's farebox system is over 20 years old and has reached the end of its useful life; and
 
WHEREAS, Metro Transit is in need of new fareboxes in order to continue efficient operations as well as have the ability to upgrade in the future; and
 
WHEREAS, the transit utility has sought Requests for Proposals for purchase of fareboxes and related equipment and obtained proposals from five manufacturers for same; and
 
WHEREAS, an evaluation of the proposals found the Genfare probosal to be the best submittal;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to enter into a contract with Genfare, a Division of SPX Corporation, for 220 fareboxes and related equipment, installation, training and maintenance for an estimated cost of $3,250,662 $3,425,000.
