Title
Amending the 2014 Fleet Services Capital Budget for Fire Equipment Replacement
Body
The 2014 Fleet Services Budget for Fire Equipment replacement includes one ladder truck, two ambulances, one pickup truck and one crew cab. The Fire Department recommends that a platform ladder truck be purchased rather than an straight aerial ladder truck. The recommendation is to purchase an aerial platform truck and delay the purchase of the crew cab. The reallocation of funding to the platform truck would not result in the need for increased funding.

The aerial platform truck would increase the Department's capabilities to provide services to the citizens of Madison. The platform aerial truck provides a more stable work area, better safety when removing trapped fire victims, increased capacity of water delivery, etc. The platform truck also benefits Special Operations Teams with structural collapse, confined space and other events. The Department needs both straight aerial and platform aerial ladder trucks to provide improved emergency services to the citizens of Madison.

WHEREAS, the Fire Department has recommended the purchase of an aerial platform truck and that the purchase of the crew cab be delayed into future years.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, to reallocate funds in the Fleet Services Capital Budget for one ladder truck and one crew cab to purchase one platform aerial truck.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the 2014 Fleet Services Capital budget be amended to reflect the purchase of one aerial platform truck rather than a standard aerial ladder truck and the delay in purchasing a crew cab.

BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Fire Department is approved to work with...
