Funding is authorized in the 2013 adopted capital budget of the Planning, Community and Economic Development agency, project no. 1, "Municipal Art Fund," Acc't No. 810427. No additional appropriation is required.
Title
Seeking Common Council approval of the 2013 Art in Public Places funding awards as recommended by the Madison Arts Commission.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council adopted Resolution ID #30476 on March 19, 2002, adopting the Public Art Framework and Field Guide for Madison, Wisconsin and recommendations contained in the framework; and

WHEREAS, the Public Art Framework and Field Guide recommends the Madison Arts Commission create opportunities for community partnerships for Art in City-Building; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission, whose mission it is to make the arts an essential part of the lives of all of Madison's citizens, re-established the Art in Public Places (AIPP) program at their Wednesday, May 9, 2012, meeting; and

WHEREAS, funding for these projects are identified as potential expenditures in the Municipal Art Fund in the 2013 Capital Budget; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission issued a call for proposals inviting non-profit organizations and neighborhood groups to submit applications for the AIPP program; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Public Library Foundation, Inc. applied for funding to commission a site specific sculpture at the Meadowridge location of the Madison Public Library; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission invited the Madison Public Library Foundation, Inc. to present their proposal before the full Madison Arts Commission on Tuesday, September 24, 2013; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission was impressed by the process of community engagement that the artist uses to create “social sculptures; and

WHEREAS, the result of this project will be the creation oif a permanent work of art in the walkway entrance outside the library’s doors in the strip mall at 5740 Raymond Road; and
