Fiscal Note
There may be some minor expenditure required to support the Madison Arts Program Administrator's participation on the Community Arts Team and the Kennedy Center project, but no additional appropriation is required. Depending on the results of the initiative, there may be some CIty expenditure required for projects in the future, which will require inclusion in future City budgets, subject to Common Council approval.

Authorizing the City's participation in the Kennedy Center's "Any Given Child" Initiative including representation on the steering committee.
Body
WHEREAS, Equal access to arts education is both an indicator of the well-being of our school district and a litmus test of the health of our community; and
WHEREAS, Youth who have access to quality arts education are better prepared to thrive in our complex, competitive, and fast changing world; and
WHEREAS, understanding the importance of arts education to the health of the arts and our City, members of the Madison Arts Commission (MAC) and the City’s Arts Administrator participated in the 2005-2008 Madison Metropolitan School District’s (MMSD) Fine Arts Task Force; and
WHEREAS, the Fine Arts Task Force collected baseline data from a community arts access assessment, released a report in July of 2008 called, “Revitalizing, Sustaining and Advancing Arts Education in Madison’s Public Schools,” and laid a foundation upon which further planning for arts access and equity could be established; and
WHEREAS, during the Cultural Planning process, the cultural plan steering committee recommended that “The City of Madison should partner with MMSD to apply to the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child project and if selected, should participate fully;” and
WHEREAS, in March of 2013, as part of a joint effort between the MMSD, the Overture Center for the Arts (Overture), and the City of Madison (Madison), applied to the Kennedy Center requesting that they choose Madison to participate in Any G...
