Honoring Resolution to James Lofton for his Lifesaving Efforts
Body
WHEREAS, on Monday, June 10, 2013, James Lofton, a Madison veteran with no permanent address was at Monona Terrace enjoying the day; and
WHEREAS, he heard Ms. Sadie Villegas, a City of Madison employee, calling frantically for assistance as she worked to prevent a woman from climbing over the railing on the Monona Terrace rooftop as she was attempting to commit suicide; and
WHEREAS, although others certainly heard the cries for help as well, Mr. Lofton ran immediately to her assistance, helping to hold the woman and pull her back to safety; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Villegas reported she would have been unable to prevent the jump without Mr. Lofton's help; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lofton put himself in danger to save the life of another; and
WHEREAS, both Mr.James Lofton and Ms. Sadie Villegas will be awarded the Madison Police Department's Life Savings Award;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor of the City of Madison and the Madison Common Council would like to thank Mr. James Lofton for his lifesaving actions.
