Title
Commending and thanking Alderperson Satya Rhodes-Conway for her dedicated service to the constituents in District 12 and to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Satya Rhodes-Conway was elected to the Madison Common Council on April 3, 2007; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Rhodes-Conway served on the Board of Estimates, Committee on Sweatfree Purchases, Common Council Organizational Committee, Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin Inc., Community Services Committee, Cultural Plan Steering Committee, Madison Arts Commission, Madison Food Policy Council, Madison Local Food Committee, Sustainable Madison Committee, Union Corners Ad Hoc Committee, Warner Park Community Recreation Center Advisory Subcommittee, Board of Education-Common Council Liaison Committee, East Washington/Capitol Gateway BUILD Steering Committee, Emerging Neighborhoods Fund Work Group, Ad Hoc Housing Committee, Long Range Metro Transit Planning Committee, Madison Area Transportation Planning Board (MPO), Reapportionment & Redistricting Ad Hoc Committee, Sustainable City Ad Hoc Subcommittee for the Public Sector, Sustainable Design and Energy Committee, Truax Air Park Development Review Committee, Zoning Code Rewrite Advisory Committee; and,
WHEREAS, during her tenure Alderperson Rhodes-Conway consistently shared information about city issues with the residents of District 12, inviting them to participate in local government, and encouraging the city to explore new ways of engaging residents from all walks of life; and,
WHEREAS, Ald. Rhodes-Conway was integral in improving the internal process of the Common Council and the City, in particular, by helping to create the position of Council Legislative Analyst and by successfully advocating for the adoption of a Council's Legislative Policy Agenda; and,
WHEREAS, she worked tirelessly to increase awareness of sustainability issues throughout the city, particularly in the form of policies about edible landscaping, beekeeping, transit, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, water conservation, sustainable land use, recycling and composting, energy efficiency and renewable energy; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Rhodes-Conway promoted economic and neighborhood development throughout District 12, in particular by helping to craft, adopt and implement the Northside Plan; and,
WHEREAS, Alderperson Satya Rhodes-Conway through her hard work and dedication to her aldermanic duties has faithfully and with honor served her constituents and the City of Madison,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend and thank Alderperson Satya Rhodes-Conway for her dedicated service to her constituents in District 12 and the City of Madison.
