PREAMBLE
The City of Madison, in cooperation with Wisconsin Department of Transportation, proposes to construct Phase 3 of the Cannonball Path project, consisting of a paved multi-use (bicycle and pedestrian) path in the former Union Pacific railroad corridor from Greenway View to approximately 1000 feet north of Beltline Highway, including a new bridge over the Beltline Highway and its north and south frontage roads. The City of Madison is the lead agency for the project and has entered into a design engineering contract with Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc.
The City requested and the consultant performed additional design services which were beyond the original scope of services due primarily to unforeseen contingencies which arose during the design process and which had to be expedited in order to keep the project on schedule. The additional services include:
1. Aesthetic and other revisions to the main structures following final design
2. Analysis and design work associated with existing lighting on the Beltline
3. Design of a unique modification to the existing Beltline median barrier
4. More extensive retaining wall design than was anticipated by the original scope
5. Additional storm sewer design to correct an existing deficiency
6. Wage adjustments due to project delays beyond the control of the City or the Consultant
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute Amendment No. 1 to the contract between the City of Madison and Short Elliot Hendrickson, Inc., for additional design engineering services for Cannonball Path Phase 3 (Bridge Over Beltline Highway)
