Congratulating our Bolivian community on the celebration of Bolivia's independence and thanking them for their ongoing contributions to the City of Madison.
Body
WHEREAS, Bolivia gained its independence from Spain on August 7, 1825; and,
WHEREAS, the Bolivian Independence Day is an event of historical significance and profound meaning to Bolivians and Bolivian-Americans; and,
WHEREAS, Madison is home to approximately 500 residents of Bolivian origin; and,
WHEREAS, the Madison Association of Bolivian Residents, founded January 2004, has organized an annual celebration of Bolivia's Independence Fiesta in Madison and this event was celebrated on August 6, 2012; and,
WHEREAS, this event, marked by festivities that illustrate the pride of the Bolivian community, is a fitting means by which to commemorate a defining moment in Bolivian history,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of Madison congratulates our Bolivian and Bolivian American citizens on the celebration of Bolivia's independence and thank them for their ongoing contributions to the City of Madison.
