Congratulating and commending West High School Girls Soccer Team on winning the 2012 WIAA Division 1 State Soccer Title.
Body
WHEREAS, the nation recently celebrated and recognized 40 years of accomplishments afforded by the passage of title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and reaffirmed the commitment of title IX to ending all discrimination against women and girls in elementary, secondary, and higher education, and to equal opportunities for women and girls in athletics; and
 
WHEREAS, West High School Girls Soccer program is one of the largest and recognized as one of the most successful in the state of Wisconsin; and,
 
WHEREAS, West High School Girls Soccer teams have won four state titles (1988, 1991, 1999 and 2000), ten state sectional titles and thirteen Big 8 Conference titles; and,
 
WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 16, 2012, the West High School Girls Soccer Team won their fifth WIAA Division 1 State Soccer title by beating DePere 1-0 and tying a 20-year old State record for no goals allowed during a tournament,
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT, the Mayor and Madison Common Council congratulate and commend the West High School Girls Soccer team, coaches, sports trainer, students and parents on their outstanding soccer season and their WIAA Division 1 State Girls Soccer Tournament victory.
