Authorizing the application by the Parks Superintendent to apply for a State of Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant to develop a Central Park skatepark.
Body

WHEREAS, the City of Madison and the Madison Skatepark Fund continue to build upon a successful relationship and work towards development of a Central Park skate park; and

WHEREAS, the City of Madison supports the development of the Central Park skate park; and

WHEREAS, the master plan for Central Park development includes a site for the development of a skate park; and

WHEREAS, the Madison SkatePark Fund has provided significant leadership in aiding the City of Madison Parks Division in identifying funding opportunities for the skate park project; and

WHEREAS, the City of Madison is interested in developing a skatepark within Central Park to provide an additional outdoor recreational opportunity; and

WHEREAS, the City of Madison Parks Division in coordination with the Madison Skatepark Fund are applying for a State of Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Program grant to assist in the capital costs of developing a skate park in Central Park; and

WHEREAS, the 2013 City of Madison Capital Improvement Program included within the 2012 Adopted Parks Division Capital Budget includes $300,000 in Park Impact Fee funding and $450,000 in external funding sources towards the development of a skate park in Central Park; and

WHEREAS, if a grant award is made by the State of Wisconsin a separate resolution authorizing the acceptance of the grant will be submitted to the Common Council for approval.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Madison Common Council supports the grant application for a State of Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant for the Central Park Skatepark project.
