Title
Removal of Inactive Sister City Programs and Inactive Members of the Sister City Collaboration Committee
Body
WHEREAS, in accordance with City of Madison Resolution #44907 created in 1998, "Madison has established and supports Sister City relationships in the belief that person to person ties are the strongest and  we can all work for peace that will result in a better understanding of all cultures.   Sister City relationships are created to develop lasting friendships on the human level and to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and views"; and
 
WHEREAS, the Madison-Oslo, Norway Sister City relationship was at the request of the Oslo city government dissolved disbandedseveral years ago; and
 
WHEREAS, the Madison-Cuszco, Peru Sister City relationship was unable to secure an agreement with the government of Cuszco and the sponsoring non-profit agency withdrew its support of the relationship; and
 
WHEREAS, the Madison-Managua, Nicaragua Sister City relationship remains intact.  The sponsoring organization, working capital for community needs (formerly the Wisconsin Coordinating Council on Nicaragua) elected to maintain the relationship independent of the City of Madison.
 
WHEREAS, with the removal of Cuszco as a Sister City, there will occur a vacancy on the Sister City Collaboration Committee;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Sister City Collaboration Committee requests that the Sister City relationships with Oslo, Cuszco and Managua be declared void and the vacant opening on the Sister City Collaboration Committee be reserved for a representative of the Madison-Tepatitlan, Mexico Sister City organization to be named at a later date.
