Title
Authorizing the Madison Common Council and Mayor to directly solicit donations from third parties for "Ride the Drive" on June 3, 2012 and August 12, 2012.
Body
WHEREAS, Sec. 3.35(5)(a)2, MGO, provides that an incumbent may solicit donations from third parties if: the solicitation has been approved by a resolution of the Common Council; the entity receiving the funds is not an entity with which the incumbent is associated; and a report of the amount and contributor for all donations is filed with the City Clerk within six (6) months of the receipt of the donation;
WHEREAS, the members of the Common Council are "incumbents" and are not "associated" with the Madison Parks Foundation, as those terms are used in the City's Ethics Code;
WHEREAS, "Ride the Drive" will be held June 3, 2012 in Madison's downtown and on August 12, 2012 on the North side of Madison;
WHEREAS, "Ride the Drive" is a free, open-to-the-public, family event where streets are temporarily closed to cars and open to bikers, walkers, roller bladers and others not in motorized vehicles;
WHEREAS, the Madison Parks Foundation wishes to raise funds from third parties to defray the costs of "Ride the Drive";
WHEREAS, the Parks Foundation wishes to have Common Council members and the Mayor make requests for donations for this purpose;
WHEREAS, a report of any amount and contributor for all donations received will be filed with the City Clerk within six (6) months of their receipt;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council authorizes Madison Common Council and the Mayor to directly solicit donations for the Madison Parks Foundation for costs associated with the "Ride the Drive" events to be held in the City of Madison on June 3, 2012 and August 12, 2012.
