The proposed contract shall not exceed $20,000. As a Water Research Foundation Subscriber, the Madison Water Utility will receive dollar for dollar matching funds for participation in this tailored collaboration. Funds are included in the 2012 Water Utility Operating Budget.

Body
WHEREAS, the Madison Water Utility has developed a sampling plan to monitor the levels of hexavalent chromium, a suspected carcinogen when ingested, in its drinking water wells and in the water distribution system; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Water Utility wants to better understand sources and fates of hexavalent chromium, and potential treatment alternatives or changes in operations and maintenance that could reduce the concentration of hexavalent chromium in Madison’s drinking water; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Water Utility, in partnership with the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, is currently investigating the aquifer bedrock matrix as a potential source of hexavalent chromium; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Water Utility has followed the latest research and regulatory developments with respect to hexavalent chromium at the national and state levels; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Water Utility is a subscriber to the Water Research Foundation, a non-profit corporation that is committed to advancing the science of drinking water by providing practical solutions to the drinking water industry’s complex challenges; and

WHEREAS, the Madison Water Utility, as a subscriber to the foundation, will receive dollar for dollar matching funds for its contribution as a participating utility; and
