Recognizing and commending Lorie Olsen on her retirement after more than 45 years of dedicated service as a City employee.

Body
WHEREAS Lorie Olsen began her service to the City of Madison on June 21, 1967 in the Personnel Department, and will begin a happy retirement in December, 2011 following 45 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS she has worked with increasing levels of responsibility in the City and in the Personnel/Human Resources Department, as Personnel Analyst and Employment Supervisor, and as Personnel Services Manager as part of the Human Resources Department management team; and

WHEREAS she has worked to develop and administer civil service employment policies and directed employment programs and processes within professional standards and in the frameworks of work needs, bargaining agreements and provisions of law; and

WHEREAS a primary characteristic of Lorie’s work has been her thorough understanding of the complex interactions of employment activities, with the ability to follow through to assure understanding, clarity, consistency and fairness; and

WHEREAS she has addressed the stream of challenges that test and hone City practices with enthusiasm and resourcefulness; and

WHEREAS during her tenure Lorie served with eight Personnel/Human Resources Directors under seven mayors and worked with City department managers and officials in all aspects of employment management; and

WHEREAS Lorie’s work responsibilities have had a wide scope, from day-to-day operations to high levels of decision-making, planning and problem solving, and has brought enthusiasm and resourcefulness to all her work; and

WHEREAS her kindness, gentleness and good humor have informed all of her interactions with co-workers, supervisors, managers and employees so that all have been confident and comfortable when working with her;
