Awarding the Fifth Annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award to Alice Fike.
Body
WHEREAS, the Madison Common Council created the Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award in memory of Jeffrey Erlanger's contributions to the City of Madison; and

WHEREAS, a committee appointed by the Mayor and Common Council has selected Alice Fike, an individual who shares Jeffrey Erlanger's dedication to and passion for civility and individual human rights; and

WHEREAS, Alice Fike is a long time resident of the Triangle housing apartment complex in Madison, which has a large number of residents with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her volunteer duties in the gift shop, Ms. Fike has become an important part of the resident community through her ability to help residents with personal problems, alert the staff to emerging issues, mediate in resident disputes; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Fike's patience, understand, and superb interpersonal skills have led to her emergence as a leader at the Triangle; and

WHEREAS, Alice Fike is a strong advocate for promoting and fostering cooperation and respect within and outside of her housing complex; and

WHEREAS, she has continued her advocacy for policies to address the needs of those with disabilities through her membership and dedication to the work of the Long Range Planning Committee for the CDA, the Housing Operations Subcommittee, the Madison Commission on People with Disabilities, South Madison Coalition for the Elderly, and Bayview Foundation Ethnic Fest; and

WHEREAS, those have had the privilege of working with Alice Fike recognize her many acts of kindness, her cheerful disposition, and the positive leadership that she has demonstrated in her many endeavors.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Alice Fike is the recipient of the fifth annual Jeffrey Clay Erlanger Civility in Public Discourse Award; and
