Honoring Jim Troia, Mike Lane and Blair Andresen for their outstanding civic responsibility.
Body
WHEREAS, on Friday, August 5, 2011 three quick thinking golfers at Odana Hills Golf Course intervened to save a couple in a nearby home from an intruder who had forced his way into their home and threatened their lives; and,
 
WHEREAS, Jim Troia, Mike Lane, and Blair Andresen heard a terrible scream while they were playing the 16th hole, dropped their clubs, hopped on their golf carts and cruised to the rescue of Bob and Barbara Meyer of Wedgewood Way.  These hero golfers, as Bob and Barb prefer to call them, wrestled the intruder to the ground and held him there until the Police came; and,
 
WHEREAS, the courageous assistance of neighbors Pastor Martha Nack, first on the scene, and Roger and Georgeanna Ames also deserve recognition; and,
 
WHEREAS, after a frightening and violent struggle of their own this brave response by the golfers allowed the Meyers to avoid any serious physical harm to themselves or their property; and,
 
WHEREAS, the golfers' actions led to the arrest of a dangerous member of our society, thereby making our entire community safer,
 
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Madison recognizes Jim Troia, Mike Lane and Blair Andresen for their outstanding civic responsibility in rescuing fellow citizens from potential unthinkable violence.
