DRAFTER'S ANALYSIS: This ordinance creates a violation of battery. The ordinance is similar to state statute and prohibits anyone from causing bodily harm to another and establishes bail deposits for this new ordinance.

The Common Council of the City of Madison do hereby ordain as follows:
1. Section 24.05 entitled “Battery” of the Madison General Ordinances is created to read as follows:
“24.05 BATTERY.
(1) Definitions.
“Bodily harm” means physical pain or injury, or illness or any impairment of physical condition.
“With intent” means that the actor either has a purpose to do the thing or cause the result specified, or is aware that his or her conduct is practically certain to cause that result.
(2) It shall be unlawful to cause bodily harm to another by an act done with intent to cause bodily harm to that person ...
