Recognizing and commending Cynthia Wick on her retirement after more than 39 years of dedicated service as a city employee.
Body
WHEREAS, Cindy started with the City of Madison September 18, 1972, as a student intern and worked her way up to the Executive Assistant, and eventually Disability Rights and Services Program Specialist; and

WHEREAS, Cindy served as a charter member of the Women’s Issues Committee and the first staff person to the support the EOC Employment Committee; and

WHEREAS, Cindy has devoted her career of 39 years with the City of Madison to ensure that all residents have equal opportunities in employment, housing, and public accommodations, thereby
creating equal opportunities for current and future residents to enjoy the City, which includes those
with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Cindy was the go-to-person for the history of the Equal Opportunities Ordinance and Commission, readily used her knowledge to promote equal opportunities, inform and educate others on the history and historical events centered around civil rights and equal opportunities in Madison since having witnessed the changes to the Ordinance that made it one of the strongest in the nation; and

WHEREAS, Cindy has witnessed the creation of the Commission on People with Disabilities and the Disability Rights and Service Program and the merger of the Equal Opportunities Commission with the Affirmative Action Department into the Department of Civil Rights; and

WHEREAS, Cindy’s dedication and commitment to her job has earned her the respect of all those with whom she worked.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the residents of the City of Madison, through the Mayor and Common Council, hereby express their deepest appreciation to Cynthia Wick for her significant contributions to shaping equal opportunities and disabilities rights and services in the City of Madison for current residents and future generations during her 39 y...
