Commending Archie Nicolette for his contributions to the City of Madison's planning program on the occasion of his retirement from public service.
Body
WHEREAS; Archie Nicolette was hired by the City of Madison on February 22, 1972 as a Landscape Planner Trainee and advanced to the position of Planner III in the Planning Division of the Department of Planning and Community and Economic Development; and
 
WHEREAS, Archie has devoted his 39 year career with the City of Madison to improving the physical appearance of Madison and creating opportunities for current and future citizens to enjoy the City; and
 
WHEREAS; Archie was active in shaping Madison's downtown by helping to develop the 1970 Master Plan for the Central Business District, the Downtown 2000 Master Plan, and the Downtown Urban Design Guidelines; and
 
WHEREAS, Archie was especially instrumental in the planning for the initial reconstruction of State Street as a pedestrian/transit mall in the 1970's and its redesign and reconstruction over the last decade; and
 
WHEREAS, Archie also played a major role in many planning initiatives across the City, including many neighborhood plans to guide established neighborhoods into the future; and
 
WHEREAS; Archie has long been recognized for his highly creative yet practical approaches to complex issues, and his talents as a Landscape Architect, Urban Designer, and photographer have long been respected by his colleagues, City boards and commissions, the Common Council, the public, and the design professionals with whom he has worked.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the citizens of the City of Madison, through the Mayor and Common Council, hereby express their deep appreciation to Archie Nicolette for his significant contributions to shaping the City of Madison's physical environment for current residents and future generations and his 39 years of loyal and conscientious public service.
