Commending and congratulating Alderperson Marsha Rummel on receiving the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council's Award for "Distinguished Service - Elected Official."
Body
WHEREAS, Alderperson Marsha Rummel was instrumental in the development and acceptance of construction specifications to help protect and preserve street trees during construction activities; and
 
WHEREAS, Alderperson Marsha Rummel researched and sponsored a City ordinance to protect all publicly owned trees from damage; and
 
WHEREAS, the adoption of the new tree protection specifications in 2010 provided better opportunities for street tree preservation as well as urban forestry awareness; and
 
WHEREAS, at the Wisconsin Arborist Association - Department of Natural Resources Annual Urban Forestry Conference on February 1, 2011, it was announced that Alderperson Marsha Rummel was selected as the 2011 Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council's Award for 'Distinguished Service - Elected Official' which recognizes the work and contributions made by elected officials to urban forestry in Wisconsin;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Common Council commend and congratulate Alderperson Marsha Rummel on receiving the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council's Award for 'Distinguished Service - Elected Official' for her leadership in protecting and preserving Madison's urban forest.
