The 2011 Monona Terrace Budget includes $85,377 for elevator and escalator maintenance. This contract will result in a savings of about $12,000 in 2011, with a total savings of $45,000 anticipated over the contract period.

Authorizing a 5-year service contract for escalator/elevator maintenance at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center with Schindler Elevator Corporation.
Body
WHEREAS, Schindler Elevator Corporation won the bid to install Schindler escalators and elevators during construction of Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center;
WHEREAS, Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center has contracted with Schindler Elevator Corporation for maintenance service for the past 13 years and is currently in year 3 of a five year contract; and
WHEREAS, neither Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center nor the City of Madison have processed an incident report or liability claim as a result of a faulty elevator or escalator nor had any issues or concerns with its Safety Certification by the State; and
WHEREAS, Schindler Elevator Corporation wishes to extend the two years remaining on its existing service contract by three years (to make the accumulative term five years); and
WHEREAS, Schindler Elevator Corporation for consideration of extension is willing to reduce the monthly maintenance fee by $1,100.17 per month and include escalator testing a required service costing $5,500 annually and agrees to cap future price Adjustments at a number not to exceed 4% annually; and
WHEREAS, Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center will save over $45,000 during the duration of the extended contract over the existing contract; and
WHEREAS, Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center would like to extend the contract an additional three years in order to realize these savings; and
WHEREAS, under MGO 4.26, service contracts with a duration of more than 3 years must be authorized by the Common Council; and
