Fiscal Note
Funding of $75,000 is authorized in the Traffic Engineering 2010 Adopted Capital budget, Project No. 10, "Safe Routes to School Infrastructure" (CE57-54922-810657). This Resolution provides for the expenditure of up to $10,000. No additional appropriation is required.

Authorizing the expenditure of up to $10,000 from Traffic Engineering for Safe Routes to School grants to Madison Metropolitan School District schools.
Body
WHEREAS, the Common Council adopted the Mayor's Platinum Bicycling Committee's report
Making Madison the Best Place in the Country to Bicycle in April 2008; and
WHEREAS, one of the high priority recommendations in that report is to Create a Safe Routes
to School Plan for Madison; and
WHEREAS, city staff have been working with the Madison Metropolitan School District, the
Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, and other community groups to develop a Safe Routes to
School Plan for Madison's schools; and
WHEREAS, city staff have worked with MMSD staff and elementary school principals to
determine viable Safe Routes to School projects; and
WHEREAS, a project at East High School was selected for funding and WHEREAS, funds are available for this purpose in Traffic Engineering's budget;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that these funds in the amount not to exceed $10,000 be allocated to East High School for their Safe Routes to School project to provide for construction of additional bike parking with concrete slab and new replacement bike racks.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that $10,000 from Traffic Engineering's budget be allocated to this program for Safe Routes to School projects.
