Title
Approving Plans and Specifications and authorizing the Board of Public Works to advertise and receive bids for the Mifflin Street Bike Boulevard traffic control at the Blair Street / Mifflin Street intersection.
Body
This is an innovative project to construct a High-intensity Activated crossWalk (HAWK) traffic signal at the Blair Street-Mifflin Street intersection which will include both Pedestrian and Bicycle traffic signals for crossing Blair Street. This crossing treatment has been used effectively in other areas of the country to help pedestrians and bicyclists cross busy streets. The City is currently marking and signing a bike boulevard on E. Mifflin from Blair to Dickinson Streets and the Yahara Parkway Bike Path. The HAWK project would enable the bike boulevard to continue further west from Blair St to Webster St and the Capitol. Without positive traffic control at busy crossings like this, the bike boulevard would not be effective.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,
That the plans and specifications for the Mifflin Street bike boulevard traffic control at the Blair Street / Mifflin Street intersection-2010 be and are hereby approved.
That the Board of Public Works be and is hereby authorized to advertise and receive bids for said project.
