Authorizing the Mayor, City Clerk and Chief of Police to accept an award from the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance in the amount of up to $7,900 and to utilize these funds to purchase Wisconsin Interoperable System for Communications (WISCOM) radios to allow for interoperability between the Madison Police command center and law enforcement and emergency agencies.
Body
WHEREAS, one of Wisconsin's top priorities is to resolve existing communications interoperability issues and improve voice communications among emergency response agencies and disciplines throughout the state; and,

WHEREAS, the State Office of Justice Assistance has obtained Federal and State funding to provide local law enforcement agencies with trunking-enabled public safety radios; and,

WHEREAS, trunking-enabled radios will allow agencies to operate on WISCOM, a new shared statewide system that will allow first responders in communities across the state to communicate during a major disaster or large-scale incident without any loss of communication capability; and,

WHEREAS, these funds will be used to purchase a mobile radio and an emergency operations center control station radio, which will allow for interoperability between the Madison Police Department command center and other agencies on the State of Wisconsin Radio System; and,

WHEREAS, the radios can also be deployed into the field with MPD personnel that would need to travel to another jurisdiction for mutual aid circumstances.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Madison, through the Police Department, is authorized to apply for and accept an award from the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance for up to $7,900.00.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these funds will be used to purchase a mobile radio kit and a control station radio kit.
