Authorized expenditures of $92,000 for Arts Grants are included in the 2010 Adopted Planning Division Operating Budget.  The Resolution authorizes expenditures of a total of $67,000 ($55,000 in grants plus $12,000 for Summer Concerts).

Seeking Common Council approval of the 2010-2011 Arts Grants awards and the 2010 Summer Concerts Series funding as recommended by the Madison Arts Commission.
Body
WHEREAS, The Madison Arts Commission has the authority, by ordinance, to annually recommend arts grants for approval by the Common Council; and
 
WHEREAS, By the annual March 15 application deadline the Madison Arts Commission received 54 applications for arts projects funding, totaling $155,365 in requests; and
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission met on April 14, 15, 16, 2010 to evaluate the applications received for the 2010-2011 grant period and on Monday, April 19, 2010 the full Commission voted to recommend funding of 47 projects for grant awards totaling $55,000.00; and
 
WHEREAS, the Madison Arts Commission recommends funding the following organizations that fall under the Summer Concerts item in the budget as follows: Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra -- Concerts on the Square -- $6,000; Monona Terrace - Concerts on the Rooftop -- $2,000; Capitol City Band -- Summer Concerts -- $2,500; Northeast Side Senior Coalition -- Warner Park Summer Concerts -- $1,500 totaling $12,000.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Common Council approves the 2010-2011 grant awards and 2010 Summer Concert Series funding recommendations of the Madison Arts Commission and authorizes the Planning Division Director, The City Comptroller and the City Attorney to execute the agreements on behalf of the City of Madison to effectuate said grants.
