Honoring the life of Robert Goodman and declaring Goodman Day.
Body
WHEREAS, Bob Goodman was a generous member of the Madison community for seven decades; and
WHEREAS, Bob and his brother, Irwin, lived lives of philanthropy in our community; and
WHEREAS, Madison's first community pool is appropriately named after them because it could not have happened without their gift and their vision; and
WHEREAS, the Goodman Atwood Community Center is another proud sign of their legacy; and
WHEREAS, together, the Goodman brothers lived a life filled with extraordinary community service; and
WHEREAS, the Goodman Pool stands today as a testament to Bob and Irwin's community spirit and understanding of the community they loved;
NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison honor the life, philanthropy and community spirit of Bob Goodman and in recognition of the countless contributions of Bob and Irwin Goodman to Madison, the mayor's office will work with community members to declare and celebrate Goodman Day in Madison;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in recognition of a lifetime of giving, Madison Parks will sponsor the Goodman Award in its annual award ceremony.
