To Declare the Week of April 25 through May 1, 2010 as ARBOR WEEK 2010 and to commemorate the City of Madison's 20th anniversary as a Tree City USA.
Body
WHEAREAS,       The City of Madison has been a Tree City USA for 21 years; and
 
WHEREAS,  Trees properly placed around a building as windbreaks can save up to 25% on winter heating costs; and
 
WHEREAS,  A large tree intercepts between 760 and 4,000 gallons of rainfall per year in its crown, reducing runoff of polluted storm water; and
 
WHEREAS,  Tree-lined business and retail districts encourage patrons to linger and shop longer and are willing to spend 12% more for goods and services; and
 
WHEREAS,  The continued planting and maintenance of trees in our city shall provide the same benefits for the present and future citizens of Madison;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE ITRESOLVED,  That the Mayor of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, does hereby proclaim the week of April 25th thru May 1st, 2010 as
 
ARBOR WEEK
 
in the City of Madison, and urges everyone able to observe this week to plant trees, and to participate in programs that the sponsors of Arbor Week may provide.
