Title
Authorizing the Madison Police Department to apply for and accept grants, donations and/or registration fees for the purpose of providing training for law enforcement personnel, and to utilize funds obtained to pay the costs associated with implementing training.
Body
WHEREAS, the 2010 Police Capital Budget includes funding to acquire a building to be used by the Madison Police Department as a Police Training Facility; and,

WHEREAS, the State of Wisconsin and the US Department of Justice at various times award grant funds for the purpose of providing specific training for law enforcement personnel; and,

WHEREAS, various law enforcement agencies may also provide registration fees for needed specialized training for law enforcement personnel; and,

WHEREAS, on occasion corporations or private donors may be interested in providing gifts for the purpose of enhancing training opportunities for law enforcement personnel; and,

WHEREAS, funds received from grants, donations and/or registration fees would then be utilized to pay the costs associated with hosting trainings, to include purchase of supplies and materials, food and beverages, and/or instructor or other fees; and,

WHEREAS, these funds may also be utilized to provide additional equipment needed to host specialized law enforcement training; and,

WHEREAS, with the provision of a training facility, the Madison Police Department may have the ability to host valuable training opportunities.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Madison Police Department is authorized to apply for and accept state and federal grant awards to implement training for law enforcement personnel.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Madison Police Department is authorized to collect registration fees for training.
