No additional appropriation is required. The Fire Department will fund its share of the internship cost by transferring funds from Permanent Salaries to Hourly Wages ($1,738).

Approving acceptance of an internship with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Pioneer Academic Center for Community Engagement (PACCE) and amending the 2010 Fire Operating Budget.
Body
The Fire Department has been offered an internship for a student for the summer of 2010. The intern would work on projects in Community Education on injury prevention and safety. This intern would also research codes and ordinances and develop a framework for discussion of enhanced fire safety in general assembly businesses.
The funding provided for this internship is $4,800 for 480 hours. The City has an hourly intern position that this individual would occupy. The City's hourly rate is higher than the rate established under the PACCE Program. The Fire Department operating budget would make up the difference in the pay rate.

WHEREAS,the City wishes to have an intern from the UW Platteville to work on Fire prevention projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Council approves participation in the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Pioneer Academic Center for Community Engagement (PACCE) Program and acceptance of an intern.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the 2010 Fire Operating Budget be amended to add $6,538 to Hourly salaries (51200-723200) offset by UW Participation Revenue (73229-723200) of $4800 and a transfer of $1,738 from permanent salaries (51110-722110).
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor or other City designated officials are authorized to sign any necessary documents.
