Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into an agreement with Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. for design engineering services for Cannonball Path Phase 3 at a higher cost than originally authorized. (14th AD)

PREAMBLE
The City is proposing construction of a paved, multi-purpose (bike and pedestrian) path in the
former Union Pacific railroad corridor from Greenway View to approximately 1000 feet north of
Beltline Highway, a length of approximately 3300 feet. Project includes a bike and pedestrian
bridge over Beltline Highway.
Design will be funded with local funds.
This design agreement was previously authorized by Resolution ID 14604, enacted 5/21/09 RES-09-00500, at a cost of $130,000. However, due to scope changes between receipt of the consultant's proposal and the execution of the agreement, the cost of the agreement has increased.
A purchase order was issued prior to execution of the agreement with the design consultant in
order to proceed as quickly as possible due to possible funding with Economic Stimulus Funds, which require aggressive design schedules
Pursuant to City Ordinances and Policies, the City Engineer advertised for consultant proposals,
reviewed the submitted proposals, and recommends the design engineering contract be
awarded to Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to
execute an agreement with Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. for design engineering services for
Cannonball Path Phase 3.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funds expended for this work under the Purchase
Order in the amount of $25,000 to Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. for design services will be deducted from funds payable under the full design agreement authorized herewith.
