Title
Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to sign up to a 3-year contract with Sprint for wireless telephone services.
Body
WHEREAS, the City currently owns approximately 650 cellular telephones under a 1-year contract with Sprint that is due to expire; and
WHEREAS, The City is paying approximately $163,000 per year for wireless telephone services and City staff have negotiated an approximate 50% reduction to these rates for the City of Madison; and
WHEREAS, Sprint provides a push-to-talk service, which gives cell tower priority to public safety agencies and first responders using the IDEN protocol that is unique to Sprint; and
WHEREAS, Madison Police use this push-to-talk service for command staff; and
WHEREAS, under MGO 4.26(4)(b), if the total cost for services will exceed $25,000 and a competitive bidding process was not used, the Common Council must authorize the contract by resolution; and
WHEREAS, under MGO 4.26(4)(a)2., Sprint is the only vendor that can provide these services, because no other vendor provides the IDEN push-to-talk service, therefore this contract would meet the exception required under MGO 4.26(4)(a)2.,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that City staff are authorized to negotiate and the Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to sign a 1-year contract with two 1-year renewals with Sprint for the above-described wireless telephone services. The estimated amount of the negotiated contract is approximately $85,000 per year.
