WHEREAS,       Świat jest bogatszy z powodu polskiej kultury i polszczyzny (The world is a richer place because of Polish culture and the Polish language); and
 
WHEREAS,      The Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin strives to enrich, expand, preserve, and promote Polish roots and culture; and
 
WHEREAS,       The Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin treats Madison-area residents every year to events such as our Spring Festival and Christmas Bazaar, and plays a special role in the annual Polish Film Festival and Wisconsin Book Festival; and
 
WHEREAS,       The Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin plays a critical role in Madison's cultural vitality by serving as its premier source of Baltic amber, wycinanki, Bolesławiec pottery, and traditional and classical music and dance of Polish origin; and
 
WHEREAS,       Polish-Americans are vital contributors to Madison's economic growth, especially in the important market segments of kiełbasa, pierogi, rye bread, vodka, and Żywiec beer; and
 
WHEREAS,      The Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin is celebrating its 30th anniversary; and
 
WHEREAS,       our members are the only ones who can correctly pronounce the Madison mayor's last name;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison, Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim October 2009 as
 
POLISH-AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
 
in the City of Madison and encourage all residents to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Poles and Polish-Americans to the city, state, nation, and world.
