Dane County will provide State 85.21 funding in the amount of $137,532 to the Transit Utility for the transportation of elderly persons and persons with physical disabilities. Funding for this program is included in the Transit Utility's 2009 Operating Budget.
Title
Authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to enter into an agreement with Dane County for the purpose of providing the Transit Utility with State 85.21 funding given to Dane County for the provision of accessible transportation for persons within Metro Transit's service area in the calendar year 2009.
Body
WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation provides State 85.21 funding to Dane County for the operation of transit services for persons who are elderly and/or persons with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, each year Dane County provides the Transit Utility with a portion of its 85.21 allocation to assist the Transit Utility in the operation of its paratransit services, and
WHEREAS, funding for this program (§85.21) provides a revenue source for Metro's ADA Paratransit Program, a service required under federal regulation and is estimated to fund in 2009 approximately 4,487 trips for an estimated 352 (non-specified) individuals; and
WHEREAS, this program is an example of a model cooperative funding program to the mutual benefit of both transit and human services;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the City Clerk are authorized to enter into an agreement with Dane County to receive Specialized Transportation Assistance funding in an amount not less than $ 137,532 for the provision by Metro Transit of eligible paratransit program services in the Transit Utility's ADA paratransit service area during the calendar year 2009.
