Body
WHEREAS, September 4, 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of the Bascom Hill pink flamingo prank; and,
 
WHEREAS, the stunt was perpetrated by Wisconsin Student Association members from the infamous Pail and Shovel Party, Jim Mallon and Leon Varjian; and,
 
WHEREAS, UW-Madison students woke up to 1,008 pink flamingos planted on Bascom Hill on September 4, 1979; and,
 
WHEREAS, this event has left an indelible mark on the history of Madison, by providing many former students with a fond funny memory, generating several postcards marking the event and even a spot in the Wisconsin Historical Museum,
 
THERE FORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council recognizes the 30th anniversary of the Bascom Hill Pink Flamingo prank and proclaims the plastic pink flamingo the official "bird" of Madison, Wisconsin in honor of the anniversary.
