Body
WHEREAS, on May 27, 2009, the Diocese of Madison announced the closing of the Catholic Multicultural Center to be effective on May 29, 2009, immediately resulting in a collaborative effort to reopen the center involving a broad range of community groups, social service providers, religious organizations and Catholic parishes, along with representatives from the City of Madison; and

WHEREAS, the following week, the Diocese announced that Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, under the leadership of Monsignor Kenneth Fiedler, would be given responsibility for the Center and marshalling efforts to reopen it; and

WHEREAS, the Catholic Multicultural Center provides for basic needs for members of the community such as a free meal program, food pantry and health services; and

WHEREAS, the Center provides educational services to members of the community such as English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, basic computer courses and homework and tutoring services; and,

WHEREAS, the Center provides an environment where members of different backgrounds and faith communities could come together in service in a welcoming environment; and,
