Honoring and commending the UW Lifesaving Station for its 100 years of service to our community.
Body
WHEREAS, the University of Wisconsin Lifesaving Station has provided invaluable assistance in public safety since its formal establishment in 1909 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2008, the UW Lifesaving Station responded to at least 400 calls for service and assisted or rescued more than 1,200 individuals on Lake Mendota; and
 
WHEREAS, the UW Lifesaving Station services the entire area of Lake Mendota and assists not just the City of Madison, but communities including Middleton, Maple Bluff, Shorewood and Westport; and
 
WHEREAS, in its 100-year history, the UW Lifesaving Station has responded to more than 110,000 individuals' calls for assistance, towing and life-threatening situations;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Madison honor and commend the University of Wisconsin Lifesaving Station for its 100 years of service to our community.
